Ada, OK -

This photo was taken the first time I met Jermey Wallace, Dec 2017 at the Chickasaw Cultural Center. We hit it off right away talking about stickball, the creators game, warriors and lacrosse, as he was weaving a yellow stick ball. I had never actually seen the two stick systems or balls in person or met anyone who played and I was instantly inspired. I too, am an artist and stick stringer, so we could have talked shop for hours.

"We have to get our two groups together" I told him. Three months later, we hosted Jermey and his army of stickball players to an exhibition game after our University of Oklahoma vs SMU game on March 10, 2018. I couldn't believe how awesome it was!

FIrst thing that was noticeable was the size of the teams. In field lacrosse there are 11 people on the field; 3 attackmen, 3 midfield, 3 defense and a goalie. In stickball, there are 30 players total per team with 10 attackmen, 10 Midfield and 10 Defensemen. There are no goalies and to score you have to hit a pole with the ball. You are allowed to takle the ball carrier, they do not wear pads, and everyone plays barefoot!

Jermey was an old, kind soul. We traded items in our short relationship. He gave me a beautiful yellow stickball he weaved, which I treasure. He also gave me a beautiful flute, which he carved.

This event is to honor the life of Jermey Wallace.
