4th ANNUAL OU NIKE LACROSSE CAMP A SUCCESS
Norman, OK -
The 4th Annual OU Nike Lacrosse camp was another successful summer! The 2019 camp featured over 70 campers representing 10 different states including: OK, TX, AZ, NM, KS, CO, VA, LA, MD and AR. It was a relatively cool week of camp for June in Oklahoma, so there was no need to turn the sprinklers on. All the campers worked really hard, listened, had positive attitudes and all improved a ton. There were a total of ten sessions over the three nights and four days, where we asked the campers to improve 5% each session. We had one broken collar bone and two ten year olds leave camp early because they were homesick, but other than those issues, everyone Improved over 50% and we believe it was all worth the sweat, blood and tears.
The morning sessions emphasis was on individual stick skills: all the dodges, fakes and ground balls, with tons of reps, reps, reps and more reps. The afternoon sessions emphasized small group situations with 2v1, 3v2 and 4v3 scenarios with even more reps, reps, reps and reps. The evening sessions were competitive scrimmages, that showcased all the reps the campers did and improvement was very noticeable.
The goalies recieved specific individual attention and instruction with two-time LSA Player of the Year, OU #24 Goalie and Captain Nicholas Johnston. The face off instruction was provided by OU #5 Evan Arnold and #49 PJ Donatucci. The defense received instruction from OU #8 Cade Flesner. The offensive players received instruction from Div II Champions and Jenks HS Head Coach Tim Labelle. OU Assistant Coach, Austen Sanchez, Freshman London Laslo, OU #22 Connor Stone and OU #36 Andrew Dickerson all helped develop the offensive players at camp. OU Head Coach Mario Enea directed every session. It was really fun to share our passion for the game with all the future Sooner lacrosse players!
